District of Tur-Abdin
Tur 'Abdin: a mountain (high plateau) connected with the mountain of Izla, which overlooks Nisibin. The territory of the same name harbors a great number of monasteries and cells, as well as many town and villages large and small. Two-thirds of the inhabitants of these villages are Syriac Christians; the rest are Muslims and Yezidis. The capital of Tur 'Abdin is Midyat. A significant number of these villages listed below came from the book "Scatered Pearls" and from the Patriarchal register of dues where the monk Abdullah Sattuf (later Patriarch Abdullah II) in 1870 visted many towns and villages and registered their households and their dues
