Dayro d'Mor Domit
The Monastery of Mor Domet, also known as the rheumatism monastery, is a partly rock-cut structure located near the Monastery of Mor Theodutes near the village of Qelleth in Tur 'Abdin. It is believed to have been built in the 7th century, a date suggested by its similar masonry to that of the nearby Mor Theodutes Monastery. The monastery's name is associated with its believed ability to heal rheumatism patients.
The monastery is first mentioned in historical records around 1000 AD. According to a monastic colophon related to the Mor Abay monastery, Mor Domet monastery were considered a "daughter-monastery" to it, along with other monasteries dedicated to Mor Theodotus and Mor Shabbai.
The monastery was renovated by Patriarch Yuhanna Shay' Allah between 1470 and 1483, when he was the metropolitan of al-Sawar. He also donated half the ownership of a water mill to the Monasteries of Mar Domit and Mar Gurgis.
The biography of Mor Theodutes (d. 698) mentions that he stayed in a cell known as the Cave of Saints. This cave is described as the tomb of Mor Abay, and the monastery of Mor Domet may have been built in front of it. The surviving walls suggest the structure had an upper story above the rock-cut section.
