This list of cities, towns, and dioceses are all outside the the Tur-'Abdin area in current day Turkey. The Syriacs had lived in these areas since their Arameans ancestors in these areas and we counted 250 settlements not including monasteries. They eventually left them and migrated east to the Tur-'Abdin area. The causes of this migration are not fully researched and understood but might include political instability in these areas, forced migration by the rulers of these areas, pogroms by different hostile groups including governments, the series of attacks by the Byzantine rulers and the Chalcedonies church hierarchy on the Syriacs who didn't accept the results of the Council of Chalcedon in 451
