Persia and Asia Region

Many cities in Western Persia (Iran) had Syriac Orthodox dioceses and communities and they were under the jurisdiction of the Syriac Orthodox Maphrianate of the East. Below is a partial list of them and it includes cities  in more eastern countries

• Aphrah

• Azerbaijan: a vast territory whose boundaries extended from the Caspian Sea in the east to Lake Van in the west.

• Bahrain

• Beth Parsaye 

• Ghinghin Talas: A town in China

• Herat (Afghanistan)

• Khorasan

• Maraga: A most famous town of Azerbaijan, south of Tabriz and east of Lake Urmia. 

• Sistan

• Sus: a town in Khuzistan (Ahwaz); the ancient Susa.

• Tabriz (Tawriz): a very famous town of Azerbaijan.

• Tiflis: an old city in Georgia, in Russia.

• Urmia: in north western Persia

• Yarcan: A town in China
