Village of Zinawrah
About 25 Syriac families lived in Zinawrah and their leader's name was Ayez. There were also Kurds living in the village and their leader was Mussa Fatme, head of the Deran clan. The Syriac community in the village thought he was a merciful and good person. After the massacres started, he took as many as forty Syriac people into his house to protect them. When the report came about the gruesome murders of the Christians and the Syriac villagers heard it, they did not know what to do. Then Mussa came to them and told them to be on guard and they need to buy weapons to protect themselves and he will protect them. His son, Ibraheem told the Syriac people not to stay in the village for the Muslims will perhaps come, and their little army is not strong enough. The Syriac people followed his advice and left the village and fled to Beth Sbirino.
When Mussa returned, he assembled the rest of Syriac people who had to stay behind in the village to take care of the people who couldn't leave and helped them go to Beth Sbirino also. He accompanied them and took them safely to Beth Sbirino. They stayed there for all the time of the persecution. When peace returned, they left Beth Sbirino, but they did not return to their village; many went to Midun, others to Beth Zabdai (Azekh) and most of them to Syria, due to the dangerous events of 1926.
